A Fun But Finicky Water Rocket. Great Alternative to the Hand Pump Versions. I bought this water rocket instead of the classic pump kind because those had such poor reviews. When the Splashblaster arrived it looked like it had been repackaged due to pealed tape and a kink in one of the water tubes. When I connected the hose and turned it on, water went everywhere and the rocket barely moved. Upon inspection I found that the hose connector did not have a rubber washer. I pulled a washer out of an old sprinkler and put connected the hose again. This time I had a tight seal and everything worked as it should. Although now I understand why this item may have been returned, it didn’t work without all of the pieces.

Now they call me Papa Rocket! This toy was the perfect gift for my four- and five-year-old grandsons. Make sure the launching tube is vertical and that the kids keep their faces away from it. The rocket flies up about 30 feet. It is heavy enough to resist wind drift and padded enough not to hurt a child it might fall on. Best of all, on hot summer days the kids can just keep their foot on the launch button and get a refreshing fountain to play in that turns itself off the moment they walk away. Plan to put it in different parts of the yard to avoid making mud pits.

Margaret Durbin says:

Not worth it – the price, the hassle, or the disappointment. Bad quality control. The original one ordered wouldn’t connect to the garden hose – managed (with three people) to get it hooked up once and then the water came out the connection not where the rocket went. Got a different one and that one was fine – hooked up no problem. But even for the one that worked – it was difficult to get back OFF the hose. The amount of work involved (even if I exclude the trip to the store to replace it) and the high risk of disappointment for the kid, I can’t recommend the toy. If it does work then it’s fun, but it’s really not worth the risk of blighting the birthday for the kid.If despite the poor reviews you do decide to get it, test it out before giving it as a present. Since that is the only way I can recommend buying it, I would also point out that buying it online therefore has no benefits – you lose the convenience and still have a significant markup.
